The purpose of this type of essay is to demonstrate facts that are disputed by the opposing side. A typical argumentative essay is used in school and college classrooms, but is also used in editorial writing, as well as research papers and speeches.
If you are creating an argumentative essay, it is essential that you read and review all of the standards which apply to the topic you wish to write about. The standards are not set in stone and vary from place to place. You should make sure that your topic is accepted by the majority of editors and that the idea you wish to present is acceptable to the readership at large. If not, you should not even try to write an argumentative essay. The thesis of your essay should also be based on your understanding of all available resources. You should make sure that you clearly state your understanding of the facts which support your thesis, and use as many sources as possible to support your viewpoint. Any missteps that can be explained using the sources you have provided should be avoided at all costs. Opinion polls may be used to support your point of view. If the information presented in the poll is inaccurate, your argumentative essay could be considered incomplete. Opinion polls, especially when they are conducted online, may prove to be of no value to your students. Your argumentative essay is most effective when you first begin by defining your opinion. This process requires you to define a term or a concept and should be done carefully and thoughtfully. The more time you spend defining a term or concept, the easier it will be to make your opinions clear. The next step in your essay should be to show your conclusions. You should be able to demonstrate the reasons for your views and provide a logic for your views. However, you should not offer a technical explanation for your views. If your arguments do not make sense to the reader, your argumentative essay is unlikely to be successful. Be careful not to appear to go over the major points. You should be able to add a few supporting points and explain them briefly. You should also be able to show the reader why your views are correct and why they should believe them. It is essential that your argumentative essay is as comprehensive as possible. If your goal is to appear original, you should make sure that you do not stray outside of the conventional viewpoints. However, if you need to present some facts which are in question, then you should add supporting information in your argumentative essay to show that you have the facts on your side.
